How to Spend eBucks: The Simple Rule Most People Don’t Know

As I’ve said before, the beauty of eBucks is its simplicity. It’s easy to earn more than R1 000 worth of eBucks per month with minimal effort once you’ve taken the time to understand the rewards program. One of the basic parts of this is knowing where to spend your eBucks or rather where not to spend your eBucks.

Where not to spend your eBucks

The main principle here is not to spend your eBucks at a shop where you would earn a high percentage of eBucks because you don’t earn eBucks if you pay with your eBucks. There are so many places that you can spend your eBucks that it makes little sense to lose the opportunity of earning good money.

The main shops where you can earn significant percentages of your spend back in eBucks using your Virtual Card are the following:

  • Checkers (15%)
  • Spar (15%)
  • Engen Fuel (R4/litre)
  • iStore (15%)
  • Clicks  (15%)
  • Spotify (40%)
  • Netflix (40%)

This is assuming you’re on level 5, which is super easy to get to if you follow these simple steps.

The Best Places to Spend your eBucks

The best places to spend your eBucks are the eBucks Shop or eBucks travel. There are 2 benefits to spending at one of these places.

First, you don’t waste the opportunity of earning a high percentage of eBucks as you would with one of the shops previously mentioned.

Secondly, you may qualify for up to 40% discount on your purchase if you pay with your eBucks.

In my experience the eBucks shop is average if I have to be brutally honest. The items that have discount are seldomly things I’m interested in buying. It used to be different quite a few years ago.

But eBucks travel is super cool. If you fly often save your eBucks until you need to purchase a flight and then pay with your eBucks. The discount you get is a huge bargain. You can also hire a car with your eBucks and enjoy fantastic discount there too.

The Second Best Places to Spend your eBucks

The second best place to spend your eBucks is any other place where you’re not losing the opportunity of earning eBucks or enjoying a discount on your purchase.

For me this is:

  • Takealot
  • Buying airtime
  • Or settling my bank fees with eBucks.

You can also spend on Mr D which I used to do often, but then I realised that the prices on Mr D are so much more expensive than just driving to a fast-food place myself. It’s just not worth it most of the time.

Some other places like this where you can spend your eBucks (which I don’t tend use are):

  • Le Creuset
  • Taxtim
  • Yuppiechef
  • Superbalist
  • NetFlorist
  • Intercape (although it might be better to earn up to R150 here by paying with your card instead)

Cape Union Mart doesn’t seem to be an eBucks partner anymore unless I’ve missed something as I don’t see them listed on the FNB App or the eBucks website anymore.

There are a few other not so well known places to spend. You can see a full list on the FNB App.

Conclusion

All in all it’s pretty simple. Don’t spend your eBucks at a shop where you can earn really good eBucks. Spend somewhere where you can enjoy discount if possible. Or do what I normally do and just spend somewhere else where it’s most convenient.
